Composition Each tablet contains Tolfenamic Acid BP 200 mg. Mechanism of Action
Tolfenamic Acid is an NSAID with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic
effects. Tiolfenamic Acid acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
Therapeutic
lndications
: Acute migraine, pain in dysmenorrhoea, rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis.
Dosage For adults and elderly patients, 200mg when the first symptoms of
migraine appear, can be repeated once 1-2hours if necessary. Tolfenamic Acid
has also been given for the relief of mild to moderate pain in disorders such
as dysmenorrhoea, rheumatoid arthritisl, or osteoarthritis in doses of 100mg
three times daily.
Side effects: Tolfenamic Acid is well tolfenamic Acid is well tolerated at the
recommended at the recommended dose. The side effects include urticaria,
nausea, epigastric pain, erythema,pruritus, duspepsia.
Contraindications : Tolfenamic Acid is contraindicated in peptic ulceration,
significantly impaired kidney or liver function and in patients in patients in
patients in whom attacks of asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis are
precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDs. Precautions Tolfenamic Acid should be
used with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulceration, or
impaired liver or kidney function.
Drug lnteractions : lnteractions interactions involving Tolfenamic Acid
include enhancement of the effects of oral anticoagulants (especially
azzpropazone and phenylbutazone).Convulsions may occur due to an interaction
with quinolones. Pregnancy and lactation Studies in pregnant women are not available.
As is the case with use of other NSAIDs,Tolfenamic Aicd should not be given in
the trimester. Tolfenamic Acid excreted to such a very small extent in mothers”
