Sixty-six million Americans have elevated blood pressure (Systolic blood pressure > 140 mm Hg or Diastolic blood pressure >90 mm Hg); 72% are aware of their diagnosis, but only 61% are receiving treatment and only 35% are under control using a threshold criterion of 140/90 mm Hg. By convention is categorized as stage 1 (140-159/90-99 mm Hg) and stage 2 (>160/100 mm Hg). The prevalence of hypertension increases with age, and it is more common in blacks then in whites. The mortality rate of stroke and coronary heart disease,Two of the major complications of hypertension ,have decline by 50-60% over the past three decades but have recently leveled off. The number of patients with end stage kidney disease and heart failure-two other conditions in which hypertension plays a major causative role-continues to rise. Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality increase as both systolic and diastolic blood pressure rise, but in individuals Over age 50 years, the systolic pressure and pulse are better predictors of complications then diastolic pressure.
In Bangladesh where lives about 200 million people, only 5% people may be know their blood pressure.Maximum literate people who works under Health ministry their maximum servant did not know their blood pressure and Hygiene. Where Govt. are not alert.
